New Bern's family band, Strung Together, will present the amazing musical story of Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash and the Carter Family at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31st, at the Historic Turnage Theatre Main Stage. The two-hour program is co-sponsored by Beaufort County Traditional Music Association and Arts of the Pamlico.
It starts with stories and songs from the Carter Family’s earliest recordings in the ‘20s—including the impact Mother Maybelle Carter made on the country music industry. The journey continues through the decades as daughter June falls in love with Johnny Cash at the Grand Ol’ Opry — and ends with Johnny and June’s biggest hits! You’ll learn a lot. You’ll laugh a lot. You’ll probably join us in song. You may even cry a bit…it’s such a powerful love story that unraveled through the many years they spent together.
