The Beaufort County Traditional Music Association is pleased to present the BCTMA Third Thursday Showcase featuring an evening with musician John Shearer on March 20 from 7:00-8:30 PM. Shearer is a lively ambassador and interpreter of Café Society Blues, and folk and traditional tunes from days gone by.
He brings his two custom built acoustic guitars and his deeply satisfying bass/baritone voice supported by a Bose professional sound system for an evening of remembering and relaxing into the comfort of his wide range of musical offerings. He draws from the tunes the Kingston Trio, Josh White, Carlos Jobim, and many others including a few originals.
Shearer is a Viet Nam veteran and a former pilot and is based in Oriental, North Carolina. He performs as a solo act at various festivals, corporate events, concerts, workshops, club dates, and house parties throughout the region and beyond. He has won the Triangle Blues Society annual competition, headlined both the First Night Raleigh Blues Stage and Shaw University’s Blues Festival and at the University of North Carolina, successfully launched the Carolina Club’s “Acoustic Blues & Barbeque” series which enjoyed rave reviews.Shearer also has appeared as the Ghost of Christmas Present in Ira David Wood and Theatre in the Park’s (Raleigh and Durham) musical/comedy adaptation of Dicken’s A Christmas Carol for the past twenty-nine years. He does voice-over and radio work and has performed with the Greater Miami Civic Chorale and the Miami Bach Society Chorale. www.Wonderofitall.org

This family friendly concert is sponsored by the Beaufort County Traditional Music Association, founded in 2008 to promote traditional music in Eastern North Carolina. The Showcase is held at the Turnage Theatre, 150 W. Main Street, Washington, NC. BCTMA also hosts acoustic string jams at the Theatre on Thursday nights and Saturday mornings.
